Newport Landing
Dana Point Whale Watching is for residents and visitors who are considering going whale watching. Newport Landing offers year-round, daily trips just north of Dana Point, departing from beautiful Newport Beach. Along with its protected coastline as well as a marine canyon just off shore, Newport Bay is home to resident mammals year-round and hosts numerous migratory species through the course of the year. This makes Newport one of the most successful whale watching locations in the country.
Newport Landing’s primary whale watching boat was designed for whale watching and has convenient seating, an upper-level viewing area, as well as a spacious, indoor galley with a snack and drink bar. Our captains have decades of combined experience locating and observing dolphins and whales and we have an incredible 96% success rate viewing cetaceans on our tours.
During summer and fall, Blue, Minke, and Finback Whales are regularly viewed off the coast. During the winter and spring months, Southern California waters host Gray Whales as they migrate to feed and have young. Newport Landing additionally gets the chance to see Southern California resident Common Dolphins as well as Bottlenose Dolphins, Risso’s Dolphins, and California Sea Lions. School Field Trips
$11 school/student rate is extended to all public and private schools and homeschool groups. Choose from any of our whale watching cruise times and days of the week or weekend. Education packets and other materials available through our education coordinator upon request.
Group Pricing
Larger groups can take advantage of our group pricing and can save from 25% to 35% off retail rates. Typically group pricing is only extended to groups of 20 persons or more.
Private Charters
Private whale watching ship rentals are available for all size groups and occasions. Cruises are typically 2.5 hours in length but trip length and departure/return times can be customized upon request. Looking for a unique and memorable event whale watching is a great option for all ages.
